Presently, the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community is meeting for their weekly Tuesday night meditation program via Zoom instead of at Westminster Presbyterian Church. For more information, please see the contact information at the bottom of this page.
Who are we?
The Buffalo Zen Dharma Community (BZDC) is a group of people from the Buffalo, NY area. We have come together to learn about and practice Zen Buddhism, and to offer this opportunity to others. We are an affiliate of the Mountains and Rivers Order located in Mount Tremper, New York.
How do I learn more?
There are many ways. Please follow us on Facebook, and click on the "JOIN OUR MAILING LIST TODAY" button below. If you have any questions, please contact us by clicking the "INFO@BUFFALOZEN.ORG" button below. Someone will personally contact you to help answer your questions.
How do I join?
It does not take much; you just need interest, some meditation (zazen) training, and orientation to our practice. If you have had little to no formal meditation experience, we offer instruction on the specifics of meditation and Zen liturgy in a group setting. If you are interested in joining - or visiting - our group, please click on the "INFO@BUFFALOZEN.ORG" button below. We also offer online instructions on meditation in the "Newcomers" page.
When will the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community go back to its usual programs?
Just recently the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community started meeting in person again. We had our first in-person gathering the first Saturday of August at our monthly, half-day, morning meditation intensive at the Network of Religious Communities building on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. And our plans are to start our usual Tuesday night program the first Tuesday of September at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. For more information about our recent Saturday sit, please view this month's blog. For our first Tuesday night program at the Westminster Presbyterian Church participants will be asked to be fully vaccinated (though no proof will be required). Masks will be optional. Our program may be a scaled-down version of what we had before the COVID pandemic, but as time goes on, hopefully, we will return to the full program we used to do. Of course, things may change as the COVID virus changes. If anyone interested in joining us has not had any experience in Buddhist Zen meditation, please review our "Newcomers" page which give some instructions and also contact us by clicking "INFO@BUFFALOZEN.ORG" below or on the Contact page. Please visit the this site and in particular the blog page for the latest information as time goes on.
